General Motors India has introduced its smallest diesel engine car on Monday Globally by Mr. Sumit Sawhney, Vice-President-Marketing Sales, and India. Chevrolet Beat is the smallest car in India, and The U.S.-based automobile company has taken competition on small diesel cars in up coming automobile market. This is especially crucial in a time when the demand for diesel cars in India is at an all time high. With the Chevrolet Beat Diesel, the company will also aim to demonstrate that a three cylinder engine too can be as smooth as say a four potter.

The 1.0-liter diesel engine has been developed by GM's engineers in Europe and modified to suit Indian driving conditions at the company's technical center in Bangalore. It have a cam chain instead of the conventional cam belt, the XSDE Diesel three potter is designed to be a low maintenance engine. The engine has also been developed keeping in mind the fact that its intended application will be mainly on city streets.
