Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi) is celebrated on Saturday, 13 August, 2011 in India and in other parts of the world. Generally Raksha Bandhan is commonly known as Rakhi which is popularly celebrated in North India.The actually mean of Raksha bandan is a bond of protection. The festival falls on the full moon day (Shravan Poornima) of the Shravan month of the Hindu lunisolar calendar and observed Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and now a days, it is observed throughout India without any religious barriers.On the day, sister ties a decorative thread called rakhi on the wrists of her brother and in return he gives her money, sweets, and lot of other gifts. In south (in Kerala and Tamilnadu) it is celebrated as Avani Avittam or Upakarma among the Brahmin community. But now-a-days, more than a ritual Rakhi is becoming a day for celebration among the youngsters.
